FURTHER
INFORMATION Teams
should aim to arrive at the Centre by 8.45am for registration
where there will be a briefing and safety talk before the teams
travel into London (see safety guidelines below).
Teams
should be made up of 4-6 Explorers/Scouts over the age of 12. A
leader may accompany a team but there will be a per leader penalty
(handicap) applied to the final score.
All
team members must as a minimum wear their explorer, scout or
district scarf. Points will be deducted for each team member not
wearing their scarf on departure or return. As this is a Scouting
activity we expect all participants to act in accordance with
Scout Rules, Law and Promise.
Teams
are to return to “GO” at Scout Park between 16:30 and 18:30. Teams returning
outside these hours will incur penalties.
The
cost of £3.50 per person does not include the cost of travel
cards, transport to and from Scout Park, food, camp fees or any
other cost incurred during the competition.
Each
team will need to bring a digital camera (with spare batteries)
with a common memory card (so we can download), a couple of
mobiles (for emergency use), and travelcards (zones 1-3) for
everyone. It is also recommended that teams bring a map of London
and of the Underground.
Travel
in London is either on foot or by public transport. Use of cars,
bikes, or taxis is not permitted.
Any
team or team member retiring before the conclusion of the event
must notify the organisers immediately.
Points
will be awarded for visiting each of the locations and answering
questions. As well as the penalties mentioned above, penalties may
be incurred for breaking any of the rules, or partaking in any
action not deemed to be in the spirit of the competition.
Safety
Each team member will be issued with an
information sheet showing emergency contact numbers.
Teams must stay together at all times.
It can get extremely crowded in central London so in the event of
separation return to the point where you know everyone was
together. If you still can’t find the rest of your team use the
emergency number to contact an organiser.
Traffic in London is very busy so use
underpasses and designated crossings wherever possible. Many roads
are one-way so always remember to look left and right before
crossing roads.
In the event of an incident or accident
the team must inform the organisers on the emergency number at the
earliest opportunity.
Look after your possessions and make
sure any bags or pockets are secure. When using your camera or
mobile phone be conscious of those around you.

Thanks to everyone who entered the 2011 event - we hope you
enjoyed the interesting locations and questions. There were some
superb team efforts and the brilliant weather helped to create the
perfect day around London. Overall there were 28 teams made up of
23 Explorer and 5 Leader teams looking to capture 50 photographs
and answering 30 questions with a maximum possible score of
£1942.
Here is the video....
EXPLORER

The
overall winners of the Explorer event were Spartan
Explorers from Essex who were awarded the Monopoly Run
trophy and prizes during the evening. Their winning total
was £1232 having visiting 34 locations and 17 questions
correctly.
2nd place went to team 'Abspullemachine' from Majendie
Steeple ESU with £1029 , and 3rd to 'Happy Team' from
Drake Explorers on £939. As they were unable to stay for
the evening their prizes will be presented to them at some
time in the future.
There
were 5 leader teams competing, with the leaders of Sir
Ranulph Fiennes Unit the winners with an impressive score
of £1390. They managed to visit 40 of the 50
locations and answer 21 of the 30 questions

the presentation so their trophy and prize will be
delivered at a later date.
